About NewDad

Hailing from Galway, Ireland, NewDad has rapidly ascended the ranks of the indie rock scene since their formation in the early 2020s. Comprised of Julie Dawson (vocals, guitar), Sean O’Dowd (guitar), Cara Joshi (bass), and Adam Murphy (drums), the quartet quickly garnered attention with their distinctive blend of shoegaze-infused indie rock, often characterised by melancholic undertones and Dawson’s ethereal, yet commanding, vocals. Their sound draws comparisons to the likes of The Cranberries and Wolf Alice, yet they possess a unique identity that sets them apart.

Their early EPs, Waves and Banshee, introduced listeners to their signature style, with tracks like “Blue” and “I Don’t Recognise You” becoming instant favourites among fans and critics alike. These releases showcased their ability to craft atmospheric, introspective songs that resonate deeply, often exploring themes of youth, anxiety, and self-discovery. Their highly anticipated debut album, Madra, released in January 2024, solidified their status as a formidable force in contemporary alternative music. Madra received widespread critical acclaim, lauded for its maturity, expansive sound, and emotional honesty, further cementing NewDad’s reputation as master crafters of poignant, guitar-driven anthems. Their live performances are known for their understated power, drawing audiences into their intricate sonic world.
