About Brighton Dome: Layout, History & Architecture

Brighton Dome comprises three main venues within a complex that was originally the stables and riding house for the Royal Pavilion, constructed in the early 19th century. Converted for public assembly starting in 1867, the site hosts the Concert Hall, Corn Exchange, and Studio Theatre.

The Concert Hall is a Victorian horseshoe-shaped auditorium with tiered seating across multiple levels, accommodating approximately 1,700 patrons. Sightlines are generally unobstructed from the main body of the hall; however, views from side balcony seats can be partially restricted depending on stage production and seating plan. While the room's design supports unamplified orchestral performances, for contemporary amplified events, the acoustic experience is primarily managed by the installed sound reinforcement system rather than the natural room characteristics.

The Corn Exchange, originally the riding school, features a large, open floor plan beneath a vaulted timber roof. This space typically holds around 1,000 standing or 500-700 seated, depending on configuration. For standing events, the expansive nature of the hall necessitates a robust PA system to ensure sound clarity and coverage, particularly towards the rear. Sightlines can be variable in a standing crowd, especially for patrons further from the stage. The Studio Theatre, a smaller, more intimate black box space, seats approximately 250-300.

The Live Experience & Current Schedule

Entry to the Concert Hall and Corn Exchange is via the main foyer off New Road. This central area provides access to multiple bars and refreshment points across various levels, which can become congested during peak times before performances and during intervals. The experience varies significantly between venues; standing events in the Corn Exchange offer a direct, open-floor engagement, while the Concert Hall provides a traditional, seated auditorium experience. Crowd atmosphere is event-dependent, ranging from subdued seated audiences to energetic standing crowds. With 3 live performances scheduled, upcoming entry prices start from £83. The next event on the calendar is Van Morrison on 30th October 2026.

Travel & Arrival Logistics

🚆

Rail & Mainline Connections

Brighton Station is the nearest mainline rail connection, approximately a 10-15 minute walk. Exit the station onto Queen's Road, proceed downhill, turn right onto North Street, then left onto New Road which leads directly to the venue's main entrance.

🚌

Bus & Local Transit

Numerous bus routes serve the city centre, with key stops located on North Street, Grand Parade, and the Old Steine, all within a 2-5 minute walk of the venue. The Old Steine functions as a primary bus interchange hub for local and regional services.

🚗

Parking & Vehicle Access

Brighton Dome does not provide dedicated visitor parking. The nearest multi-storey car parks are NCP Church Street and the North Laine Car Park, both with entrances on Church Street, approximately 5-10 minutes' walk uphill from the venue. Be advised that city centre parking fees are high, and traffic congestion is common, particularly during peak event times.

🚶

Entry, Queues & Security

The primary entrance for the Concert Hall and Corn Exchange is situated on New Road. The Studio Theatre has a separate entrance nearby. Queues typically form along New Road or Pavilion Buildings prior to doors opening. Bag searches are standard procedure upon entry; adhere to any stated bag size restrictions to expedite entry.
