Constructed in 1933 as a grand picture palace, The Troxy is a significant example of Art Deco architecture in East London, holding Grade II listed status. Originally a single-screen cinema with a substantial capacity, its opulent interior, characterised by elaborate plasterwork, gilded accents, and a distinctive proscenium arch, has been carefully preserved through various transformations. Today, the hall primarily functions as a versatile live event space, hosting concerts, film screenings, corporate events, and boxing matches.

The auditorium offers flexible configurations, typically accommodating approximately 3,100 standing patrons for concerts on its main floor, or around 1,800 seated guests across both the converted stalls area and the original, steeply raked circle (balcony). The stage is well-defined and prominent. While the balcony seating provides elevated and generally excellent sightlines over the performance area, views from the flat standing floor can become challenging for those further back or of shorter stature during sold-out events.

Given its origins as a cinema from the 1930s, the space possesses a lively acoustic profile inherent to its large volume and high ceilings, with hard surfaces contributing to a resonant character. Consequently, the venue relies heavily on a sophisticated, well-tuned modern PA system for contemporary amplified music. While capable of delivering powerful and immersive audio, the natural reverberance means the acoustic experience can vary, requiring careful engineering to maintain definition, particularly in a packed room.

Entry to The Troxy is via its main entrance on Commercial Road, where queues typically form under the venue's distinctive Art Deco façade. Inside, multiple bars across the ground floor and balcony levels offer refreshments within the grand, period-appropriate surroundings. For standing concerts, the main floor can become quite dense, creating an energetic atmosphere with direct proximity to the stage for those who arrive early.
