About Desierto de los Monegros: Layout, History & Architecture
Desierto de los Monegros, established in 1991, occupies a purpose-built structure originally conceived as an industrial exhibition hall within Tardienta's former manufacturing district. Its architectural language is distinctly late-modernist, characterized by its exposed concrete façade and expansive, unadorned interior volumes. The main auditorium, a vast, column-free space, features a flat standing floor with a stated capacity of 2,800. A steel-framed mezzanine level cantilevers over the rear and sides, offering unreserved standing and limited fixed seating for approximately 400 patrons, providing elevated sightlines to the stage.
The design prioritizes flexibility and volume, which inherently dictates the acoustic profile. The prevalence of hard concrete surfaces throughout the hall results in a live, reflective sound environment. While this can lend an immersive quality to electronic music or full-band productions, it demands precise calibration from the house sound reinforcement system to mitigate excessive reverb, particularly in the mid-range. Patrons on the mezzanine may experience a slightly different sonic image due to the overhead structure. The stage itself is generously sized, designed to accommodate large-scale productions without visual obstruction from most areas of the main floor.
