About 713 Music Hall: Layout, History & Architecture

713 Music Hall, which opened in late 2021, is a significant modern performance venue situated within the redeveloped former Barbara Jordan Post Office in downtown Houston. The hall’s architecture integrates a purpose-built, contemporary interior into the pre-existing, robust brutalist shell of its host building. This design choice provides a large-scale framework for the auditorium while presenting a sleek, performance-focused environment within. Designed to accommodate approximately 5,000 patrons, the space features a dynamic, multi-tiered layout.

The core of the viewing experience is a substantial, flat standing floor that extends directly before the stage. Above this, a series of tiered mezzanine and loge levels provide various seated configurations, generally ensuring clear, unobstructed sightlines across the auditorium. Given the inherent scale and materials of the structure, particularly the concrete elements, the clarity and presence of live sound are heavily reliant on the sophisticated, integrated PA system. The design prioritizes direct visual access and relies on state-of-the-art sound reinforcement to deliver performances effectively within this urban industrial setting.

The Live Experience & Current Schedule

Ingress into the hall is managed from Franklin Street, where queues typically form before patrons enter a spacious main lobby. This area is equipped with multiple well-positioned bar stations, designed to facilitate efficient service and reduce congestion during peak times. Once inside, attendees can opt for the energetic, often dense, atmosphere of the main standing floor or ascend to the various tiered sections, which offer elevated perspectives and a less crowded experience. The overall crowd atmosphere tends to be vibrant, reflecting the diverse range of acts hosted.

With 38 live performances scheduled, upcoming entry prices start from £7.50. The next confirmed event on the calendar is Lucki on 18th September 2026.

Travel & Arrival Logistics

🚆

Rail & Mainline Connections

The nearest METRORail stops are Preston Station (Green/Purple Lines) and Central Station Main (Red Line). Preston Station is approximately a 7-minute walk south down Travis Street to Franklin Street, then west to the hall’s entrance. Central Station Main is a slightly longer 10-minute walk west along Franklin Street.

🚌

Bus & Local Transit

Numerous Houston METRO bus routes serve the downtown area, with key stops along Main Street, Travis Street, and Congress Street. These stops are all within a 5 to 10-minute walk of the venue. Patrons are advised to consult the official METRO website or app for specific route details and real-time schedule information.

🚗

Parking & Vehicle Access

On-site parking is available within the POST Houston garage, accessible directly from Franklin Street. Additional paid parking options include the Theater District Parking Garages (e.g., Tranquility Garage, Alley Theatre Garage) and the Capitol Tower Garage, all situated within a 10-minute walking radius. Parking fees are consistent with typical downtown Houston rates, and advance booking for the POST Houston garage is strongly recommended on event nights due to high demand and potential traffic congestion.

🚶

Entry, Queues & Security

The primary entrance is located at 401 Franklin Street. Queueing arrangements are typically managed outdoors along the sidewalk, guided by event staff. All entrants are subject to standard security checks and bag policies, which are strictly enforced. For a smooth entry and to allow ample time for pre-show amenities, arriving 60 to 90 minutes before the scheduled performance start time is advised.
