About Auditori Fòrum CCIB: Layout, History & Architecture
Completed in 2004 as part of the Centre de Convencions Internacional de Barcelona (CCIB) for the Universal Forum of Cultures, the Auditori Fòrum is a distinctive component of Josep Lluís Mateo’s contemporary design for the complex. Its architecture features a striking blue-tiled façade that gives it an iconic geometric profile within the Parc del Fòrum. Inside, the auditorium is primarily configured with fixed, tiered seating, offering a capacity of approximately 3,140 patrons across its various levels. The layout ensures clear sightlines from most sections to the proscenium stage, though patrons in the furthest upper reaches will experience a more distant perspective of the performance area.
The hall’s design, typical of large, modern convention centre auditoriums, prioritises functionality for amplified events, conferences, and large-scale productions. Acoustics are engineered to deliver clarity for spoken word and amplified music, relying heavily on sophisticated integrated sound reinforcement systems to manage volume and projection across its expansive space.
