About Aviva Studios: Layout, History & Architecture

Aviva Studios, which formally opened in October 2023, is Manchester's newest purpose-built cultural venue, designed by OMA (Office for Metropolitan Architecture). Its architectural style is a striking example of contemporary industrial modernism, utilizing raw concrete, steel, and expansive glass to create a dramatic and highly adaptable environment. The complex comprises two primary performance spaces: The Warehouse and The Hall.

The Warehouse is a vast, industrial-scale flexible space, designed to accommodate up to 5,000 standing patrons or reconfigured for large-scale immersive productions, theatre-in-the-round, or tiered seating arrangements. Its immense volume and concrete structure contribute to a naturally expansive and reverberant acoustic profile, which is meticulously managed by a highly sophisticated, integrated sound system tailored for diverse events. The Hall, a more traditional yet equally adaptable theatre, seats up to 1,600. It features retractable seating and variable stage configurations, offering a more controlled acoustic environment. Sightlines throughout are generally unobstructed when seated in The Hall, though in The Warehouse, they can vary significantly depending on the specific stage design and crowd density.

The Live Experience & Current Schedule

Entering Aviva Studios involves navigating a straightforward modern entry system, typically leading into spacious foyer areas where multiple bars are available. The experience in The Warehouse can be one of intense energy, particularly for standing concerts, where the vast floor allows for significant crowd movement but also density near the stage. For seated configurations in The Hall, the atmosphere is generally more focused, with clear views and robust sound reinforcement ensuring clarity across all sections.

With 10 live performances scheduled, upcoming entry prices start from £67.68. The next confirmed event on the calendar is Chris Stussy on 9th October 2026.
