About BRIC: Layout, History & Architecture

BRIC House, located at 647 Fulton Street in Downtown Brooklyn, opened its doors in October 2013, following a comprehensive renovation of the former Robert W. Johnson Hall. This structure, originally part of the Brooklyn Collegiate and Polytechnic Institute, dates back to the 1890s. The architectural design by Leeser Architecture skillfully integrates the historic facade with a thoroughly modern interior, creating a contemporary arts and media facility within a late 19th-century shell.

The primary performance space within BRIC House is a versatile black-box style ballroom. This configuration allows for adaptable stage setups and audience arrangements, accommodating up to 450 patrons for standing events, or configurable for up to 250 seated patrons. Sightlines are generally unobstructed, benefiting from the flexible design that eliminates fixed pillars or elevated balconies. Acoustically, the hall functions as a controlled environment; its dry, absorptive surfaces are designed to minimize natural reverberation. Consequently, the sonic experience is highly dependent on the quality and configuration of the installed sound reinforcement system, allowing for precise control over audio dynamics specific to each production.

The Live Experience & Current Schedule

Entry to BRIC House is managed via its main entrance on Fulton Street, leading into a spacious lobby that facilitates efficient crowd flow. A bar service is available in this main lobby area, offering refreshments before events and during intermissions. Within the performance space, the intimate black-box setting fosters a direct connection between audience and performer, whether patrons are standing on the main floor or utilizing flexible risers for seated events. The absence of traditional tiered seating or distant balconies means the crowd atmosphere is typically engaged and close-knit.

With 1 live performances scheduled, upcoming entry prices start from $63.86. The next confirmed event on the calendar is Liz Phair & Sleater-Kinney Brooklyn on 19th September 2026.
