About Drumsheds: Layout, History & Architecture
Drumsheds, which opened in 2023, occupies a colossal former IKEA warehouse within the Meridian Water regeneration zone in North London. The architectural approach is unpretentious and industrial, embracing the building's raw, utilitarian aesthetic. Exposed concrete floors, vast ceiling heights supported by a lattice of steelwork, and stripped-back finishes define the cavernous interior. The space is largely a flat-standing configuration, divided into multiple zones or "rooms" that can be adapted for various capacities, allowing for flexible event staging up to approximately 15,000 attendees.
Sightlines across the main hall are generally expansive due to the sheer scale of the space, though specific event layouts and stage placements will dictate optimal viewing positions in denser crowds. Acoustically, the inherent properties of such a massive, concrete-dominated industrial structure mean that sound fidelity is heavily reliant on the installed PA systems. Without sophisticated sound reinforcement and acoustic treatment, the hall would naturally be prone to considerable reverberation and echo. Event organisers deploy powerful, distributed speaker arrays to combat these challenges, delivering a focused sound despite the immense volume of the building.
The Live Experience & Current Schedule
Ingress to the venue is designed to handle significant crowd flow, with multiple entry points leading into extensive foyer areas where bars are strategically located to minimise queuing. Within the main event spaces, the experience is typically one of a high-density standing pit, encouraging an energetic atmosphere. The sheer size of the hall allows for immersive visual productions to complement the sonic experience. With 8 live performances scheduled, upcoming entry prices start from £40. The next confirmed event on the calendar is DEFECTED on 19th September 2026.
