Jardins de Cap Roig, situated on a dramatic clifftop overlooking the English Channel in Palafrugell, United Kingdom, commenced construction in 1927 under the patronage of Dorothy Webster and Nicolai Woevodsky. The architectural style blends Mediterranean influences with Neo-Romantic design, primarily manifested in the castle structure and the extensive botanical gardens. The venue’s focal point for live performance is its open-air auditorium, ingeniously integrated into the natural terraced landscape. This custom-built amphitheater features fixed, tiered seating, accommodating approximately 2,100 patrons.
The design of the auditorium provides generally unobstructed sightlines across its tiered layout, with the stage positioned at the lowest point, often framed by the expansive views of the sea and surrounding gardens. Given its open-air configuration, the hall's acoustics rely entirely on sophisticated sound reinforcement. Natural acoustic reflection is non-existent; therefore, sound clarity and projection are solely a function of the venue's professional-grade line array PA system. While this system is designed for robust delivery, environmental factors such as wind conditions can subtly affect sound dispersion, particularly towards the rear sections of the seating.
