LiveHouse Dundee opened its doors in 2008, a purpose-built structure designed to accommodate large-scale contemporary music events within the city's revitalised waterfront district. Its architectural style is best described as late-modernist utilitarian, characterised by a robust concrete and steel framework with extensive glazing on the southern facade, offering views across the River Tay. The design prioritises functional space over ornate detailing, reflecting an industrial aesthetic sympathetic to Dundee's heritage while clearly distinguishing itself as a 21st-century addition.
The main auditorium is a substantial, multi-level space with a standing capacity of approximately 1,800. The majority of the floor space is flat, providing an expansive standing pit directly in front of the stage. Towards the rear, a gently raked standing tier improves sightlines for those further back. Above this, a single, shallow balcony offers a limited number of fixed seats, primarily along its front edge, providing an elevated perspective. Sightlines from the front standing area are generally unimpeded, though crowd density can become a factor. Views from the rear standing tier are good, particularly of the stage, but the periphery of the balcony can suffer from partial obstructions due to structural columns.
