About Lotto Arena: Layout, History & Architecture
Constructed in 2007, Lotto Arena exemplifies a modern, multi-purpose event space, designed for flexibility across sports, concerts, and large-scale gatherings. Its architecture is primarily functional, characterised by a robust concrete and steel framework with extensive glass facades, typical of early 21st-century arena design. The space offers a versatile layout, featuring a large, flat main floor that converts into a standing pit for concerts, surrounded by steeply raked, fixed-tiered seating that ascends towards the rear of the auditorium. This configuration ensures generally clear sightlines from most elevated positions, though floor-level views can vary with crowd density.
Acoustically, the hall presents the inherent challenges of its expansive, hard-surfaced construction. While engineered with modern sound reinforcement in mind, the concrete shell often results in a naturally reverberant environment. Sound fidelity is therefore heavily dependent on the quality and precise tuning of the installed public address systems, which must work diligently to mitigate reflections and deliver clarity across the wide volume of the space.
The Live Experience & Current Schedule
Access to the Lotto Arena is generally streamlined, with multiple entry points designed to facilitate efficient crowd flow, even for large-capacity events. Inside, the concourses offer various concessions and foyer bars, providing amenities before and during performances. The atmosphere within the main auditorium shifts considerably between the energy of a dense standing pit and the more settled experience of the tiered seating. From the upper tiers, the stage is viewed from a distance, offering a comprehensive overview of the production, while the standing area provides direct proximity to the performance.
With 9 live performances scheduled, upcoming entry prices start from £89. The next confirmed event on the calendar is Deep Purple on 23rd October 2026.
Travel & Arrival Logistics
Rail & Mainline Connections
The primary mainline connection is Antwerpen-Centraal station. From here, passengers can take Tram 3 (towards P+R Merksem) or Tram 6 (towards P+R Luchtbal) directly to the Sportpaleis stop. The tram journey typically takes around 15 minutes, followed by a short two-minute walk east to the arena's entrance.
Bus & Local Transit
In addition to Trams 3 and 6, the Sportpaleis stop is served by numerous De Lijn bus routes, including 19, 23, and 600-series regional lines, providing extensive connections across Antwerp and its surrounding municipalities. Consult the De Lijn website for specific route planning and real-time schedules.
Parking & Vehicle Access
For those arriving by car, several official car parks are situated within a manageable walking distance. Parking Slachthuis and Parking Spoor Oost are the main designated facilities, located approximately a 7 to 10-minute walk south-east of the arena. Parking fees apply, and advance booking via the Sportpaleis Group website is strongly recommended, especially for high-demand events, to mitigate congestion.
Entry, Queues & Security
The main entry points are typically located on the north-eastern façade of the arena, near the junction with the Sportpaleis. Queues are managed outdoors before funnelling into security checkpoints for bag searches and ticket scanning. Arriving 45-60 minutes before the advertised door time is advisable to allow for these procedures and to navigate to your designated seating or standing area without rush.
