About Magazine London: Layout, History & Architecture

Opened in 2019, Magazine London stands as a monumental, purpose-built event space designed with a clear industrial-modernist aesthetic. Its architectural language is defined by vast, open volumes, exposed concrete, and extensive steel and glasswork, allowing for significant natural light in its daytime configurations. The primary performance area, known as the Magnum, offers a sprawling flat standing floor, providing an expansive environment for up to 3,000 attendees for live music events. There are no fixed tiered balconies; instead, the design prioritises adaptability, with any elevated viewing platforms being temporary installations for specific event layouts.

The sheer scale of the hall, characterised by its imposing height and hard surfaces, dictates its acoustic profile. Sound reinforcement relies heavily on a meticulously engineered and powerful PA system to counter the natural reverberance inherent in such a large, concrete-and-steel structure. While this allows for impressive sound pressure levels and broad coverage, the fundamental room acoustics are those of a vast industrial shell, meaning the quality of the live sound experience is primarily a function of the touring sound engineer's expertise and the venue's installed system. Sightlines throughout the main space are generally unobstructed due to the absence of pillars, though the experience for shorter individuals in a dense standing crowd remains typical of large flat-floor venues.

The Live Experience & Current Schedule

Ingress at Magazine London is managed through dedicated entry points, typically leading into a substantial foyer area that accommodates multiple bars and merchandise stalls without immediately compressing the arriving crowd. Once inside, the experience in the Magnum space is one of unencumbered standing, with the flat floor allowing for a dynamic crowd atmosphere that can range from high-energy intensity near the stage to a more relaxed viewing experience further back. Without fixed seating, the level of immersion is direct, placing all patrons in the same expansive volume as the performance. With 0 live performances scheduled, upcoming entry prices start from standard pricing. The next confirmed event on the calendar is upcoming live performances on soon.
