Opened in 2011, Mewa Arena, formerly known as Opel Arena, is a modern multi-purpose stadium primarily constructed from pre-cast concrete and steel. Its architectural style is characteristic of contemporary European football stadia, prioritising functionality, spectator sightlines for sports, and rapid construction. The facility features a distinctive red and white exterior, reflecting the colours of its resident football club, 1. FSV Mainz 05.

Designed with a capacity of approximately 34,000 for sporting events, the layout comprises a large central pitch that converts into a standing area for concerts, surrounded by three tiers of seating: a lower bowl, a middle tier, and an upper tier. Sightlines from the tiered seating are generally clear and unobstructed when the stage is configured at one end of the pitch, though views from the far corners or highest seats can be distant. Acoustically, as a large, open-air concrete structure, the space is inherently expansive and prone to significant reverberation. Concert sound relies almost entirely on extensive, professional line array PA systems to deliver controlled audio to the audience, mitigating the natural echo and vastness of the hall. The design is for grand spectacle, not intimate acoustic performance.
