Originally constructed in 1960, the Palacio de los Deportes was a landmark for Madrid's sporting and entertainment scene. Following a devastating fire in 2001, the venue underwent a comprehensive rebuilding, reopening in 2005 as a thoroughly modern, multi-purpose arena. Designed by architects Enrique Hermoso and Paloma Huidobro, the current structure features a robust, large-scale concrete frame typical of contemporary stadia, built for durability and high-capacity events.

The hall offers a highly adaptable configuration, primarily featuring an expansive central floor that can be set up for full standing capacity, various sports courts, or seated arrangements. This central area is enveloped by multiple tiers of fixed seating, providing a total capacity of up to 17,453 for concerts. Sightlines from the tiered sections are generally clear and direct towards the central stage or court, though specific stage designs or overhead rigging for concerts can occasionally introduce minor obstructions for patrons seated at extreme angles. Acoustically, the space is a product of its large-scale, concrete-dominant design. While equipped with state-of-the-art sound reinforcement systems, the hall's inherent acoustic character leans towards a lively, reverberant profile, necessitating expert sound engineering to achieve clarity. The vast volume means sound is primarily shaped by the installed PA, rather than natural room acoustics.

Ingress into the arena is typically managed through multiple designated entry points around its perimeter, designed to handle large crowds efficiently. Once inside, the spacious concourses lead to numerous foyer bars and concession stands, offering standard arena refreshments; these areas can become notably dense during peak periods. For concerts, the experience varies significantly between the standing pit, which offers direct stage proximity and an energetic atmosphere, and the tiered seating, which provides elevated sightlines and a more composed viewing experience. While the pit ensures immediacy, density can be high. Balcony seats offer a broader perspective of the entire production.
