Nova Spektrum, originally established in the mid-20th century as a fairground, has evolved into a prominent, multi-purpose exhibition and convention centre following extensive modern expansions and renovations. Its architectural profile is primarily functionalist and modernist, characterised by large, open spans of concrete, steel, and glass, designed for adaptability rather than intricate aesthetic detailing. The complex houses numerous halls of varying scales, with the principal spaces comprising vast, flat-floor areas capable of accommodating thousands of attendees.
Configurations for live performances are flexible, utilising temporary staging, risers, and removable seating arrangements; fixed tiered balconies are not a feature of the main halls. Sightlines across the expansive floors are generally clear but can become distant for those positioned further from the stage. Acoustically, the inherent nature of such large, hard-surfaced exhibition halls dictates a challenging environment. The spaces are naturally cavernous, with considerable reverberation, necessitating comprehensive and robust sound reinforcement systems to achieve acceptable sonic clarity for concerts and presentations.
