Open Air am Tanzbrunnen, established in 2018, presents a modern, functional architectural aesthetic, blending steel, glass, and local stone elements. Situated on the northern bank of the expansive Eco Park Lake in New Town, the venue's design capitalises on its scenic waterfront location. The primary performance space features a vast, gently sloping natural amphitheatre, providing clear sightlines down to a permanent, partially covered stage structure. The hall is configured primarily for standing events, accommodating up to 8,000 patrons, supplemented by several terraced grass sections offering a more relaxed, elevated viewing experience.
The stage’s contemporary design prioritises efficiency and adaptability for diverse productions. Acoustically, as an open-air venue, the space relies heavily on a sophisticated line-array PA system for sound projection. While sound engineers meticulously calibrate the system to combat environmental factors such as wind and ambient noise from the surrounding park and lake, the expansive nature of the auditorium means some degree of sound dissipation can occur at the very rear of the field, requiring careful management during a performance. Reverberation, characteristic of enclosed concrete structures, is naturally absent here, with clarity and projection being paramount.
