Opened in 1994, ROXY Ulm occupies the repurposed steel-concrete railway sheds of the former Magirus-Deutz industrial complex. This historical conversion retains much of its functional, industrial aesthetic, characterized by exposed structural elements and high ceilings. The core of the venue comprises three primary spaces: the Großer Saal, accommodating up to 1200 standing or 650 seated patrons; the more intimate Kleiner Saal for approximately 300 standing; and a smaller Studio space for around 100.

The Großer Saal typically features a large, flexible flat floor, adaptable for general admission standing concerts, seated theatrical performances, or other event configurations. Sightlines across the main floor are generally clear, though audience density can impact individual views during sold-out standing events. The venue does not feature traditional multi-tiered balconies; viewing is primarily from the main floor level. Given its origins as an industrial hall with hard surfaces and considerable ceiling height, the auditorium’s natural acoustics tend towards reverberance. As such, performances rely heavily on sophisticated, professionally engineered sound reinforcement systems to deliver clarity and impact to the audience.

The Live Experience & Current Schedule

Ingress to the venue is via a distinct entrance on Schillerstraße, leading into a practical foyer space where typical amenities like coat checks and bars are located. For events in the Großer Saal, the experience is predominantly a standing one, allowing early arrivals direct stage proximity, though the space can become quite dense at capacity. Sound engineers actively manage the robust installed PA system to optimize audio fidelity within the venue's unique architectural shell.
