The Savoy Theatre, originally constructed in 1881 by C. J. Phipps, introduced the world's first public building lit entirely by electricity, marking a significant architectural and technological milestone. Following a devastating fire in 1929, the structure was rebuilt by Frank Tugwell, with an opulent Art Deco interior designed by Basil Ionides, creating a distinctive blend of Neo-Renaissance exterior and modernist elegance within. Further extensive restoration in the 1990s, overseen by Sir Hugh Casson, meticulously preserved and refreshed Ionides' original Art Deco vision. The auditorium is arranged with a traditional proscenium arch and tiered seating across three levels: Stalls, Dress Circle, and Upper Circle, accommodating approximately 1,158 patrons.

Sightlines throughout the space are generally well-considered, providing clear views of the stage from most seats due to the carefully raked tiers. Minor obstructions might occur from safety balustrades in the upper circles or from extreme side angles, a common characteristic of historic theatre design. Acoustically, the hall is purpose-built for theatrical performances and musicals. The sound profile prioritises clarity and even dispersion, ensuring that both spoken dialogue and live orchestral accompaniment are articulate and well-balanced across the auditorium. It provides a controlled and articulate sonic environment, specifically engineered for the nuances of vocal performance and instrumental scores, rather than the raw amplification of modern concert venues.

Ingress to the theatre is directly from the Strand, where queues typically form along the pavement before doors open. Upon entry, patrons are directed through the main foyer, which leads to various levels of the auditorium and offers access to several well-appointed foyer bars, providing refreshments and light snacks.
