About Steinmetz Hall at Dr Phillips Center: Layout, History & Architecture

Steinmetz Hall, an integral part of the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts complex in downtown Orlando, officially opened its doors in January 2022. This modern auditorium is meticulously engineered as a "multiform" concert hall, distinguished by its exceptionally flexible and naturally resonant acoustic profile. With a capacity of 1,700 patrons, the space is primarily configured with tiered seating across three levels, designed to provide clear sightlines throughout the hall.

The architecture of the hall embraces a classic "shoebox" design, meticulously crafted to achieve an N1 sound rating—the lowest level of background noise detectable within a building. This precise acoustic isolation allows for unamplified performances to resonate with remarkable clarity and detail. The space also features sophisticated variable acoustics, allowing the room’s characteristics to be finely tuned for diverse performance types, from grand orchestral works to intimate chamber ensembles, without reliance on electronic sound enhancement. This design prioritizes the pure, unadulterated experience of live performance.

The Live Experience & Current Schedule

Access to Steinmetz Hall is via the main entrance of the Dr. Phillips Center, leading into an expansive common foyer area equipped with several bars and refreshment points. The primary configuration is fully seated across all tiers, with no standing pit, cultivating an attentive and focused atmosphere ideal for classical, jazz, and acoustically driven performances. Views from all three levels are generally unobstructed, with the intimacy of the lower orchestra sections contrasting with the broad perspectives offered from the upper balconies. With 0 live performances scheduled, upcoming entry prices start from standard pricing. The next confirmed event on the calendar is upcoming live performances on soon.
