About The JunkYard: Layout, History & Architecture

"The JunkYard," located in Denver's RiNo Art District, occupies a repurposed industrial warehouse structure originally constructed in the early 1920s. Following a comprehensive renovation and conversion in 2018, the building now functions as a dedicated live music venue, embracing a raw, utilitarian architectural aesthetic often characterized as industrial brutalism. The exterior retains much of its original brickwork and concrete, while interior spaces feature exposed steel beams, high ceilings, and an interplay of untreated concrete and corrugated metal surfaces.

The primary performance area is a single, large hall configured for standing audiences, with an estimated capacity of 1,500 patrons. The layout is predominantly a flat floor, encouraging a dynamic, close-proximity viewing experience. Along the north wall, a single, raised mezzanine provides an elevated vantage point, accessible via a prominent steel staircase, offering clearer sightlines over a full standing pit. There are no fixed seating arrangements within the main performance space.

Acoustically, the hall presents a live and naturally reverberant environment, typical of its industrial lineage. The high, untreated ceilings and hard, reflective wall surfaces mean sound propagation relies heavily on the installed state-of-the-art line array PA system. While strategic acoustic panels have been integrated to manage reflections, the sonic character of the space demands meticulous front-of-house engineering to ensure clarity and impact, particularly during high-energy performances where crowd noise and natural resonance interact.

The Live Experience & Current Schedule

Entry to The JunkYard is typically managed through the main doors facing Blake Street, where staff direct queues and conduct bag searches efficiently. Once inside, the atmosphere immediately shifts to a high-energy, industrial-chic setting, with concrete bars positioned in the foyer and along the perimeter of the main hall, offering quick service. For popular events, the standing pit can become quite dense, fostering an immersive, direct connection with the stage, while the mezzanine provides a slightly more removed, but still engaging, perspective with improved sightlines.

With 0 live performances scheduled, upcoming entry prices start from standard pricing. The crowd atmosphere is generally vibrant and engaged, fitting the venue's unpretentious, industrial character. The next confirmed event on the calendar is upcoming live performances on soon.
