Originally constructed in 1968 as the Kingston Civic Assembly Hall, Venue TBA Kingston occupies a prominent position on the River Thames’ east bank. Its architectural lineage is firmly rooted in the utilitarian Functionalist style prevalent in post-war municipal developments, characterised by robust concrete and red-brick façades, punctuated by large, rectilinear windows. Designed for adaptable community use, the main auditorium boasts a substantial flat-floor standing area, capable of accommodating up to 1200 patrons for live music events. A permanent, elevated stage anchors the performance space, complemented by a fixed, slightly raked mezzanine balcony at the rear, offering an additional 300 seated positions for configurations requiring a more controlled viewing experience.

Sightlines from the main standing pit are generally clear, providing unhindered views of the stage. However, the mezzanine level, while offering a different perspective, incorporates several load-bearing concrete pillars that can partially obstruct views from specific seating locations, an architectural remnant of its original multi-purpose design. Acoustically, the hall presents a challenge typical of its era. The hard, untreated surfaces and considerable ceiling height of the primary space contribute to a pronounced natural reverberation. Consequently, the venue relies heavily on a meticulously engineered, powerful PA system to achieve vocal clarity and instrument definition, particularly for complex, layered sonic performances. Without precise sound reinforcement and astute mixing, the room's inherent characteristics can lead to a less defined, more expansive sound profile.
