About YES (Pink Room): Layout, History & Architecture
Opened in 2018, YES (Pink Room) occupies a dedicated space within a converted former printing press building in Manchester city centre. The architectural aesthetic leans into its industrial heritage, featuring exposed concrete, raw finishes, and visible ventilation systems that define a functional, post-industrial environment. The Pink Room itself is located on the second floor, designed as a singular, flat-standing auditorium. Its capacity accommodates approximately 250-300 attendees, providing an intimate setting for live performances.
The stage is positioned at one end of the rectangular room, directly facing the audience. There are no tiered balconies or fixed seating; the experience is entirely standing. Sightlines are generally unobstructed, though, as with any flat-floor venue, visibility can be affected by crowd density for those positioned further from the stage. Acoustically, the hall's low ceiling and hard, reflective surfaces, typical of its industrial design, contribute to a direct and immediate sound. While the sonic profile relies heavily on a robust and well-calibrated PA system, the inherent characteristics of the space foster an immersive, close-quarters listening experience rather than an expansive, naturally resonant acoustic.
The Live Experience & Current Schedule
Access to the Pink Room involves ascending to the second floor of the YES building, either via stairs or lift from the main ground-floor entrance. Within the performance space, a dedicated bar services the audience, reducing the need to leave the room during a set. The flat standing floor encourages a dense, energetic crowd, creating an atmosphere of direct engagement with the performers. Due to the room's modest size, proximity to the stage is a defining aspect of the live experience, fostering a palpable connection between artist and audience.
