About Autocine Madrid: Layout, History & Architecture
Opened in February 2017, Autocine Madrid is a purpose-built, open-air cinematic and event space designed to accommodate up to 400 vehicles. The architectural focus is on expansive clear sightlines and efficient vehicle flow, rather than traditional building aesthetics. At its core is a vast, elevated screen measuring approximately 250 square metres, positioned to provide optimal viewing angles across the entire car park. The ground is a flat, asphalted expanse, systematically marked for parking bays. Complementary structures include a retro-themed American diner and dedicated food truck zones, providing amenities without obstructing the primary viewing experience.
The design prioritizes functionality, with infrastructure for vehicle entry, exit, and on-site services. Acoustic delivery is primarily achieved through FM radio transmission (88.3 FM), piped directly to car stereo systems, ensuring a personalized and contained audio experience within each vehicle. For events with a pedestrian component, supplemental outdoor PA systems are deployed, designed to project sound across the designated non-vehicle areas. The inherent open-air nature means sound reflection and room reverberation are not factors, with acoustic quality largely dependent on the fidelity of individual car audio setups or the direct projection of external speaker arrays.
