Originally constructed in the 1880s as a flour mill, then serving as a steel tool factory, the building now known as Electric Sheffield underwent conversion to a music venue in 1980. Its architecture reflects its industrial origins: a robust, utilitarian structure of brick and steel, designed for functionality rather than aesthetic grandeur. The primary performance space is a large, open hall with a flat standing floor, capable of accommodating approximately 900 patrons for live music events. There are no tiered balconies or fixed seating within the main auditorium; views are generally direct from the floor, though can be impacted by crowd density, particularly towards the rear.
