Constructed in 1986 and situated primarily underground beneath Heinrich-Böll-Platz, this concert hall is a distinctive example of late modernist architectural design, conceived by Busmann + Haberer. The auditorium features a "shoe-box" layout adapted with terraced, amphitheater-style seating that surrounds a central stage on all sides. This configuration ensures an intimate yet expansive experience for its approximately 2,000 patrons. The design prioritises acoustic excellence, purpose-built for unamplified orchestral and classical performances, delivering exceptional clarity and an immersive sound profile throughout the space without reliance on electronic reinforcement. Sightlines from most seats are generally excellent due to the steeply raked tiers, providing an unobstructed view of the stage from various perspectives, though some side-on views may differ in their directness.
