Opened in January 2010, Teatre de la Llotja in Lleida presents a bold contemporary architectural statement, designed by Francine Houben of Mecanoo architects. Its striking facade integrates a distinctive texture and monumental scale, utilising exposed concrete, expansive glass, and a refined material palette. The primary performance space, the Main Auditorium, features a traditional proscenium arch configuration with 1,000 fixed, tiered seats, offering an unobstructed view of the stage from all levels. A secondary venue, the Sala Ricard Viñes, provides a more intimate setting for up to 400 attendees, also arranged with tiered seating.
The modern construction and design prioritised acoustic performance. The hall is engineered to provide clarity for both spoken word and unamplified musical performances, with strategic material choices and geometric considerations managing reverberation.
